SeaStatus was built by a North Carolina boater who wanted a faster answer to a simple question: "Should I launch today?"
Instead of checking multiple forecast sites, tides, and cameras separately and trying to weigh them against each other, SeaStatus combines those inputs into one straightforward recommendation — green, yellow, or red, with the reason spelled out in plain language.

Every waterway SeaStatus covers is scored from live wind, wave, tide, and visibility readings, pulled from NOAA marine forecasts, NDBC buoys, and NOAA CO-OPS tide stations. Scoring is vessel-specific — a 16-foot flats skiff and a 30-foot center console read the same 3-foot chop differently, so the recommendation adjusts for boat length and hull type, not just the raw numbers. Where a live camera exists near the water, it's linked in directly, so you can see conditions with your own eyes before you hook up the trailer. The same scoring engine also drives forecasting, so you can plan a trip days out and not just check the water the morning of.
