Lake Superior from Saxon Harbor WI to Upper Entrance to Portage Canal MI 5NM off shore to the US/Canadian border including Isle Royale National Park is a nearshore coastal water reached from boat ramps in Michigan and Wisconsin and Minnesota. SeaStatus lists 12 ramps that launch into it, the closest being Agate Beach Park at 4.6 mi.
Nearshore water is scored mostly on wind and wave height, with wave steepness and the tidal current counting too. A current running against the wind is treated as worse than either one alone.
